Web Site Address

In the same that you have a home address, giving the home number, street address, town or city, state and the country, so do you have a web address or an Internet address. A web address gives a unique identification of where you are located in the world wide web.

An Internet address uniquely identifies a node on the Internet. In a network, a node can be your processing location, while in a computer, a node can be a computer or another device like a printer. Each node has a unique network address.  An Internet address may also mean the name or Internet protocol (IP) of a Web site (URL—Uniform Resource Locator). An Internet address can also represent someone's e-mail address.

Domain Address

Having used the Internet for a while now, the term domain address must not anymore be new to you. A domain address is in principle, similar to a postal address, like you have specific address that is specifically linked to you in the same way that a domain name is linked to a web site.

You will get a domain address by obtaining web hosting. Your host will give you an Internet protocol (IP) address, a unique address comprising a set of identification numbers that will be used to identify your web site. Instead of typing the identification numbers, you are allowed to type your domain address. As an example, if you want to go to a certain website, you can just type the domain name in your browser, like typing www.domainname.com instead of typing 206.121.156.3.

If you are surfing the Internet, you can also be traced by other people by finding your IP address. All computers or electronic devices can communicate with each other with the use of this unique Internet address or web address. This is how important a web address is.

How to Get a Domain Address

Get your domain address from a domain name domain name registration company, through “registrars”. These companies use as reference the directory of the domain name registration company that has a directory organized hierarchically, of all the domain names and their corresponding computers that have been registered to particular persons and companies who use the Internet.

Registrars will ask you a lot of information before registering your domain, like your contact information and some technical information, and require you to sign a registration contract where you will find the terms and agreements of your domain name registration. These information are kept in a central directory known as a “registry”, which is what allows the Internet users in sending you an e-mail or to finding your website.

Some people find it difficult to come up with an appropriate name for their web sites, because the name for the domain address that they have in mind have already been taken. Think of a domain name/s that represents your business accurately, and if it is not yet taken, register it quickly.
